After a while, Kirstyn and I split off on our own in search of the Albert Cuypmarkt, and fresh stroopwaffles. I think it's probably a good thing that I don't live here, because I would get so fat on those things :) After a quick ramble in the park, we stopped at the grocery store to get supplies for dinner. Shopping was a fun experience, because everything was in Dutch, and we don't read Dutch. Also, not all of the foods that we take for granted in the U.S. are readily available in other countries. We did end up finding all we needed, though, and successfully made burritos for all of us for dinner. Justine had never eaten a burrito before, as Mexican food hasn't really made it to the Netherlands yet. That was kind of a cool reminder that we are actually far away from home, and so much of what we take for granted is different. Spent the rest of the evening being lazy and watching movies together.
Random thoughts:
Someone mentioned that we talk about food a lot in our blog. Really? I honestly hadn't even noticed. Apparently food is just very important to us :)
In my humble opinion, forms of currency that use coins for integer values of said unit (euro, pound, dollar) are stupid. Or at least, very annoying. Coins should be used for fractions, such as 35 cents, and bills should be used for whole numbers, like 1 or 2 euros. Please. This would make me much happier.
